Squarespace vs. Showit: Which Website Builder is Best for Wedding Pros?

So you started your wedding business (YAYYYY!!!), and now it’s time to get professional (aka showcase your talents on your very own website). As a web designer for wedding pros and a former wedding business owner myself, I’ve dabbled in all the major website builders. Today, I’m gonna break down two of the most popular website platforms for wedding pros — Squarespace vs. Showit — and help you decide which one is best for you.

Both Showit and Squarespace have become top choices for photographers, planners, and creative service providers. Here’s what I found to be the best and worst aspects of each of these platforms.

What I love about Showit and Squarespace

I’ve used Showit and Squarespace as a wedding business owner and as a web designer. By sharing the pros and cons of each software, I hope to help you choose which is best for your business. First, let’s talk about what Showit and Squarespace both do well:

Drag-and-drop editing

The best thing about Showit and Squarespace as website platforms is that they’re easy to use. You don’t need to know a single line of code to make a beautiful site for your wedding business! Their drag-and-drop builders make DIYing your site easy – even if you don’t feel very tech-saavy. What you see on the screen as you’re building is exactly what your live website will look like.

Free website templates

Both Squarespace and Showit offer free website templates that are perfect for launching your first website FAST. As your business grows, you can upgrade to a premium template (I love this elegant Showit website template designed for photographers and wedding pros), or hire a web designer like me to design a beautiful custom website.

Mobile responsive

Nearly 54% of all web traffic in 2024 came from mobile devices (source: Statcounter GlobalStats). With more couples visiting your site on their phones than from their computers, having a user-friendly mobile site is more important than ever! Luckily, both Showit and Squarespace allow you to create mobile-friendly sites (though in different ways—more on that in a bit).

Using Showit and Squarespace for my wedding business

Before I was a web designer, I worked in the wedding industry as a wedding cake designer. As a new business owner, I needed a website to look professional in front of engaged couples. I wanted something that would be easy enough for me to set up (because I didn’t have the funds to hire a web designer), but that also looked pretty (to properly show off my modern, elegant cake designs).

After researching “the big 3”—Squarespace vs. Showit vs. WordPress—I decided on Squarespace for my first website. It was a great choice for my first website, but I eventually ended up moving over to Showit (I’ll get into all the reasons below!).

Now, as a web designer, I’ve worked extensively with both platforms. I’ve seen firsthand what works (and what doesn’t) for different types of wedding pros. Let’s break it down!

Is Squarespace a good website builder for wedding pros?

Squarespace is best for beginners and DIYing your website

As a new wedding business owner, I found Squarespace easier to learn as a beginner. You don’t need to know any code; simply use their drag-and-drop website builder. It’s the perfect out of the box solution to get your website launched quickly. I often recommend Squarespace for new wedding businesses, or business owners who want website that is easy to DIY.

Blogging is built in to Squarespace

With Squarespace, you can design and publish blog posts directly in the website builder. Other platforms like Showit require integration with WordPress, which means you have another platform to learn and manage.

Simpler design options

When choosing a website builder, it’s important to know that Squarespace has more restricted design abilities than Showit. Squarespace is grid based, which mean all text and images must “lock on” to a point on the grid, rather than being able to place elements wherever you like on the page. You lose some creative freedom this way. Another downside is that websites can often feel “boxy.” (This is the reason I ultimately switched from Squarespace to Showit.)

Another design limitation is that heading styles are universally set, and you’re not able to re-style individual pieces of text. While this does help beginners keep their website looking organized, it is frustrating when you’re ready for more customization options.

Automatic Mobile View

Every website has two versions: a desktop version (for screens 1300-2500 px or wider) and a mobile version (roughly 300-400 px wide). You’ll see a different version depending on what size screen you’re viewing from (computer vs. phone).

Once you’ve designed your website for desktop, Squarespace automatically creates a mobile version. This can save a bunch of time… or cause a big headache! Sometimes the way Squarespace lays out the mobile version is not quite how you want it. Then you’re stuck in a maddening cycle of adjusting the mobile side to look better, which only makes the desktop side looks goofy, and back and forth. 🤦🏼‍♀️ If you have a specific layout in mind, it can take some fanangling to get it just right on desktop and mobile.

Is Showit a good website builder for wedding pros?

Complete design freedom

One of my favorite things about Showit is having complete design freedom over my website. I can place elements wherever I want (as opposed to Squarespace’s grid restrictions), which allows me to create more unique designs that naturally flow. Because of this, I can often tell just by looking at a website whether it was built on Squarespace vs. Showit vs. WordPress!

For some people, however, more creative freedom can feel overwhelming and even lead to analysis paralysis. Designing in Showit is best for wedding pros who are comfortable learning new tech. Starting from a template definitely helps!

Independent mobile design

Designing a website can feel daunting. But designing it twice? That’s essentially what you have to do in Showit, since the desktop and mobile versions of your site are completely separate. This is a huge difference in designing a website on Squarespace vs. Showit.

Even though an automatically designed mobile version of your website (like Squarespace offers) might sound nice, I’d rather design my own mobile site. In 2024, nearly 60% of all website traffic comes from mobile devices. If most engaged couples will see your site on a small screen, why would you leave your mobile design to chance?

I love designing in Showit because I can customize the mobile experience without comprising the desktop version (eg: hiding elements on mobile to make it simpler for a small screens). This way, I can create an experience that is engaging for couples viewing on mobile and keeps them on your site longer.

Blogging powered by WordPress

A common mistake wedding pros make on their Showit website is trying to blog directly in the Showit website builder. Showit doesn’t actually have a native blog platform, so all blogging happens in WordPress (you need a Showit blog subscription to create your associated WordPress account).

It’s odd to have a blog separate from your Showit account, but it’s worth it considering WordPress’ powerful blogging capabilities. You’ll also have access to helpful SEO tools, like Yoast SEO, that can help your site rank in search engines.

Connecting your Showit account to WordPress is pretty straightforward since Showit creates and connects your WordPress blog for you. You’ll write your blog content in WordPress, and design your blog templates in Showit’s drag-and-drop website builder.

The downside is that without Showit’s Advanced Blog subscription (which is more expensive than the Basic Starter Blog subscription), you only get access to a handful of approved plug-ins. (If you haven’t used WordPress before, it requires plug-ins for everything.) I can’t even duplicate a blog post without the advanced plan!

Which website builder is best for SEO? (Squarespace vs. Showit)

If you’ve ever googled “which website platform is best for SEO,” you probably found a firestorm of hot takes about how Showit and Squarespace are bad for SEO. Or maybe you’ve heard how you can only get on the first page of Google with a WordPress website. What’s true when it comes to Squarespace, Showit, and SEO?

But first… what is SEO, anyway?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is how to make your website more visible to search engines like Google. It tells Google who you are and what you do, so that Google understands your website and can serve it up to couples who are interested in your services. When engaged couples search for wedding vendors in your area, good SEO helps your website show up higher in the search results.

SEO involves many factors, but some of the most important ones include:

  • Using relevant keywords throughout your website
  • Having clear, descriptive page titles and meta descriptions
  • Creating high-quality content that answers couples’ questions
  • Making sure your website loads quickly
  • Having a mobile-friendly design
  • Building quality backlinks from other wedding industry websites

Both Showit and Squarespace offer built-in SEO tools to help optimize your website. Let’s look at what each platform offers:

Showit and Squarespace are both good for SEO

If you’ve been researching, “is Showit good for SEO?” you’ve probably found a firestorm of hot takes insisting that WordPress is the only website platform that’s good for SEO.

The truth is, your website can rank on the first page of Google regardless of which of the 3 major website platforms you’re using (Squarespace vs. Showit vs. WordPress). Both Squarespace and Showit have built-in tools to help with your SEO. Showit’s integration with WordPress is a huge plus, especially if you’re using the Yoast SEO plug in to optimize your blog posts for SEO (eg: specifying your target keyword, customizing SEO titles and meta descriptions, etc.) and readability.

It’s not about the website platform so much as ensuring your website is properly optimized. In February 2025, Sara Does SEO researched 144 of the highest ranking wedding business websites and found that 31% of them were on WordPress, 25% were on Showit, and 19% were on Squarespace. Conclusion? You can have a high ranking website on any of these platforms.

So when it comes to Squarespace vs. Showit, which website builder is best for wedding pros?

After using both platforms for my business, I think Squarespace and Showit are both great choices depending on where you’re at in your business.

If you want an easy to use drag-and-drop platform with the smallest learning curve, a built-in blog, and automatically designed mobile version, Squarespace is perfect for you.

Squarespace might be the best website platform for you if…

  • You’re building your first website
  • You want a platform that’s easy to use
  • You don’t want to design your mobile site separately
  • You want a simple, built-in blog

Showit might be the best website platform for you if…

  • You’re want maximum creative control of your website design
  • You’re comfortable with more design freedom
  • You want to customize your mobile design rather than have it auto-generate
  • You want a robust WordPress-powered blog
  • You’re a photographer (seriously, Showit is a photographer favorite for good reason!)

If you’re at the point in your business where you’re ready for something more customized, want a WordPress-powered blog…. Then I recommend Showit!

Just remember: The perfect platform is the one that works for YOUR business. Try them both out and see which one feels right for you.
